Biography of Michelangelo

Michelangelo's full name is Michelangelo Di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. He was born on March 6, 1475 and he died on February 18, 1564. He was 88 years old when he died in Rome, Italy. Michelangelo was an Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet and engineer. Some of Michelangelo's best known pieces of art were David and Pieta. These two pieces of art were sculpted before Michelangelo was even 30 years old. Even though he didn't care much for painting he still painted beautiful master pieces in fresco in the history of Western art: the scene from Genesis on the ceiling and the last judgement on the alter wall in the Sistine Chapel in Rome. At 74 years old Michelangelo succeeded as being the architect of Saint Peter's Basilica. The dome of the Basilica was finished after Michelangelo's death with some modifications. He was the first Western artist to have his biography published while he was still alive.
